Coronation Street viewers will witness the end of an era tonight as Liz and Steve finally sign away the Rovers Return.

The ITV soap’s famous pub will change hands after Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) was forced to sell up to pay for his divorce from Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh).

An emotional episode will see his mum Liz (Beverley Callard) say her last goodbyes to the watering hole as she prepares for a new job as a receptionist at the medical centre.

Used to pulling pints for local friendly faces, Liz struggles to cope as she is thrown in at the deep end with a mounting queue of patients and a constantly ringing phone.

The drama will continue elsewhere on the Cobbles on Wednesday as the Bethany Platt grooming storyline takes a new turn.

After weeks of keeping details of her ordeal a secret, Bethany (Lucy Fallon) finally confides in her friend Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) that her devious ex-boyfriend forced her to have sex with policeman – and Craig’s own mentor – Neil.

Coronation Street continues at 7.30pm on ITV on Wednesday.
