English actor alleges Harvey Weinstein sexually assaulted her in London hotel

A British actress who once starred alongside Colin Firth has accused Harvey Weinstein of sexual assault.

Sophie Dix, 48, alleges Weinstein pushed her on to the bed and began tugging at her clothes after being invited up to his room at the Savoy hotel in central London in 1990.

It comes amid a string of sexual harassment allegations against the movie mogul who has also been accused of rape by three women – claims Weinstein “unequivocally denies”.

Dix was 22 at the time of the alleged sexual assault, which she considered reporting to the police but feared it would damage her career.

“It was an exciting time of my life. I was open and trusting and I had never met a predator; I had never considered a predator,” she said.

The actress told the newspaper Weinstein “made sure the wine was flowing” before asking her to come to his room to help him make some decisions over another film.

“As soon as I was in there, I realised it was a terrible mistake. I got to the hotel room, I remember talk of a massage and I thought that was pretty gross. I think he showed me his big back and I found that pretty horrid.

“Then before I knew it, he started trying to pull my clothes off and pin me down and I just kept saying ‘no, no, no’. But he was really forceful. I remember him pulling at my trousers and stuff and looming over me.”

Dix managed to escape to the bathroom where she locked the door.

Dix claims she was “very, very vocal” about it at the time, but those in the industry “didn’t want to know about it”.

She said she received two further phone calls from Weinstein, one which she interpreted as telling her to “stop talking”.

A second call felt like “further abuse”, Dix added after she claimed the producer called her and said: “It’s a new year, and I’ve decided to turn over a new leaf and I’m going to start with you, and I’m going to say I’m sorry and is there anything I can do for you?’.”

Dix went on to have a role in ITV’s Soldier Soldier and now works as a screenwriter, but believes her film career was “massively cut short”.
