Australian model Duckie Thot has said she takes her own make-up on shoots because her skin is so dark.

Thot, a rising star in the fashion world, said it was difficult when she was growing up because she struggled to find cosmetics that even matched her skin tone.

She told ES magazine: “I take my own make-up to shoots every time.

“I’ll give the make-up artist the space and we’ll shoot. If it doesn’t look good, then we’ll change to what I know works.

“If you’re doing make-up on my skin, no one knows my face more than me.

“Growing up, make-up was ordered online, shipped from America or London.

“I found it difficult — I’m really, really dark: sometimes even the MAC shades weren’t dark enough.”

She said of her home country: “No one wants to go out there because they don’t want to sit on a plane for 24 hours. So I had to do the opposite and put myself where everyone wanted to be.”

The catwalk queen now counts Rihanna among her friends, and said the singer has “become a mentor to me, and also a great confidante”.

“She tells me not to take things personally because the business is just that: a business,” she said.

The full interview appears in this week’s fashion edition of ES magazine, out Thursday February 15.
