Rapper Drake replaced DJ Khaled as the headliner at Wireless Festival on Sunday, and fans could not have been happier.

The Canadian hitmaker, whose album Scorpion topped the charts this week, rocked up on the Main Stage at the Finsbury Park event in London, hours after it was confirmed that DJ Khaled was unable to make the show.

A tweet from the festival’s official Twitter account said: “Due to travel issues DJ Khaled will not be performing but we are working on something special that won’t disappoint…”

Fans had initially aired their concern that DJ Khaled was still on holiday in Mexico just hours before he was due to take to the stage.

Others had suggested that Drake would be the one taking over.

As Drake took the stage to a screaming crowd of thousands, he said: “I wanna hear London go crazy tonight!”

The rapper performed around six songs, including his number one hit God’s Plan.

Fans took to Twitter to express their joy at seeing Drake on stage, while others were sad to be missing the gig.

One wrote: “Drake is at #wireless… was a good substitution still.”

Another said: “Drake turning up at #Wireless to replace @djkhaled is the best substitution of this #WorldCup period. #WirelessFestival.”

Another joked: “Sounds like the #Wireless crowd are enjoying the last minute replacement for #DJKhaled. #DrakeWho?”

One music-lover shared a picture of sad-looking Love Island contestant Wes Nelson and wrote: “@Drake confirmed headlining the only #Wireless day we didn’t get tickets for.”

“Drake at #wireless. That crowd sounds MENTAL,” one commented.

BBC Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills revealed he was enjoying the music from his home.

“I can hear @Drake from my house and it sounds incredible,” Mills tweeted.

Drake joined Sunday night performers including rappers Giggs and Rick Ross, and hip hop duo Rae Sremmurd.

Earlier this week, rapper J Hus was dropped from Wireless Festival due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

The 22-year-old was charged with knife possession last month and is due to appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on July 20.

American rapper Cardi B also pulled out of appearing at Wireless earlier this year when she revealed her pregnancy.
