Jack Black has said his message to his children and young Hollywood stars is “embrace your inner strangeness”.

The comic actor stars in magical new release The House With A Clock In Its Walls, alongside Cate Blanchett.

Asked what message he has for the younger generation in the wake of the #MeToo movement, Black said it is to have a “little courage” and be themselves.

The star said it had been central to his own success in Hollywood.

Speaking at the West London premiere of the Eli Roth film, he said: “Embrace your inner strangeness. Not being embarrassed to let your really true self show.

“Something I point to in my own life and my own successes, finding my own voice.

“That takes a little courage.”

Black, who play warlock Jonathan Barnavelt in the new film, went on: “I’ve got kids of my own, 10 and 11 years old, and I see how much they care about wanting to be normal and fit in.”

The star said he wanted the younger generation not to fear being different, adding: “That’s your real magic power.”

Black battles dark magical forces in the new family film, which sees him play the guardian of a precocious young boy intent on learning the ways of warlocks.
