Rose McGowan says she no longer speaks to Asia Argento after sex assault claims
An actor alleged Argento assaulted him.
Rose McGowan has revealed that she no longer speaks to her fellow #MeToo activist Asia Argento after a young actor accused her of sexual assault.
Italian actress Argento was, along with McGowan, one of the first women to come forward to say they had been attacked by Harvey Weinstein.
They have both been credited as prominent members of the #MeToo movement.
In August, it emerged Argento had been accused of having a sexual relationship with an actor when he was 17. The age of consent in California, where the alleged incident took place, is 18.
Argento denied the claims and agreed to pay her accuser 380,000 dollars (£295,000) in a settlement.
Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, McGowan said the pair are no longer in contact, adding: “She’s done a lot of good for the movement, and worked really hard for it. I don’t think it [the allegations] discredits the work she’s done, but it probably will going forward.
“I just don’t know how someone picks up their life from where Asia is now.”
Earlier this month, McGowan became the first woman to win the Inspiration prize at the GQ Men Of The Year awards.
McGowan, 45, said it had been a “fight” since coming forward with allegations against Weinstein.
She said: “The weight is very heavy. It’s been a fight. It’s been a fight every goddamned day. Some fights, and justice, that’s worth it.”
