Larry Lamb wants fans to ‘keep up the pressure’ for more Gavin And Stacey

Larry Lamb has hinted that he would be keen for another series of Gavin And Stacey after the Christmas special.

The actor, who reprised his role as Mick Shipman in the sitcom for the Christmas Day one-off episode, responded to a fan on Twitter who had asked him to “please convince” show creators Ruth Jones and James Corden to do another series.

With Corden included in the message, Lamb tweeted: “Just keep up the pressure!!”

Lamb also told of his delight at the largely positive reaction to the BBC One show, tweeting: “Well just to say how happy we all are that the show was as well received as we all guessed it would be … and thrilled to bits even so !! LoL.”

The Gavin And Stacey special secured the highest overnight Christmas ratings in 12 years, with the episode watched by an average of 11.6 million viewers.

It was the biggest festive special since Christmas Day 2008.

The episode picked up 10 years after the previous instalment and revealed that Gavin and Stacey (Mathew Horne and Joanna Page) now have three children, while Smithy and Nessa (Corden and Jones) were successfully co-parenting their son, Neil.

Gavin and his parents, played by Alison Steadman and Lamb, travelled to the town of Barry in Wales to be with Stacey and her family, including mother Gwen (Melanie Walters) and eccentric uncle Bryn (Rob Brydon).

It ended on a dramatic cliffhanger, with a marriage proposal between two major characters left unanswered.

Nessa got down on one knee and asked on-off lover Smithy to marry her, but before he could respond the end credits rolled leaving fans none the wiser as to how he answered.

Viewers have now called for a new series in a bid to find out what happens between the popular characters.

However, Jones has already said there are currently no plans to bring Gavin And Stacey back for a string of new episodes.

The show originally ran over three series, plus a Christmas special, from 2007 to 2010 on the BBC.
