Former X Factor star Lucy Spraggan is releasing a cover of The Proclaimers’ I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) after debuting her version on tour.

The singer-songwriter, 28, announced the news on Twitter, describing the track as “one of the best love songs ever written”.

Spraggan said she had decided to make a recording after her live cover went down well with audiences.

She told her 560,000 followers: “500 miles is, in my opinion, one of the best love songs ever written

“We stomped around our house to this song as children and I never really listened to the words fully until a couple of years ago.

“It’s a song of dedication and adoration and I wanted to celebrate it, so I recorded the cover. Some of the best music in the world came out of Scotland – this is one of those songs.

“Had a blast playing this on tour recently & can’t wait for you all to hear this version!”

Spraggan rose to fame at the age of 19 when she took part in the X Factor in 2012.

She was one of the favourites to win before she was forced to pull out of live shows due to illness, but has since gone on to have a successful music career, releasing her fifth album Today Was A Good Day in May last year.

Her cover of I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) is out on January 31.
