Phil Mitchell is set to return to Albert Square this week as Sharon Mitchell bids an emotional farewell to her late son.

The character has not been seen in the show since the programme’s 35th anniversary episodes last month.

Sharon (Letitia Dean) is saying goodbye to her son Dennis (Bleu Landau), who was killed off by the programme’s writers last month as the soap celebrated its anniversary.

Images from the programme, which were released by the BBC, show Phil and Sharon getting involved in an angry confrontation.

In one of the images Sharon can be seen brandishing a pointed object in Phil’s direction.

The scenes will air on Monday and Tuesday.

Phil, who is played by actor Steve McFadden, first appeared in EastEnders in 1990.
