Lily Allen has revealed that when she first connected with her husband David Harbour on a dating app his profile picture was him dressed as his character from Stranger Things.

The 37-year-old British singer and actress married American actor Harbour, 47, in a Las Vegas ceremony in 2020.

Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, which will air on Saturday, Allen explains how she met her husband, who plays Jim Hopper in the hit Netflix science fiction drama.

“On a dating app, called Raya. It was the first time I’d been on this dating app. I was scrolling through and landed on David’s profile and pressed accept,” she said.

She added: “I didn’t know who he was. I thought he was just like a sexy policeman from a reality TV show. He was wearing a policeman’s uniform.

“It was a still from Stranger Things. I’d never seen Stranger Things.”

Allen, who appears on the ITV chat show alongside Ed Sheeran, Russell Crowe, Michael Buble and Desiree Burch, added: “I don’t even know what I was looking for. It was just something to do on holiday, swiping, it’s a bit of fun.

“When I met him I didn’t think it was going to go anywhere. He was here filming Black Widow. He was only going to be here for a couple of months. And then it did (go somewhere).”

Allen, who found fame in the early noughties and has released four studio albums, also reflects on performing with American pop-sensation Olivia Rodrigo at Glastonbury Festival last year.

She made a surprise appearance on The Other Stage during which she and 20-year-old Rodrigo performed Allen’s hit song F*** You in response to the US Supreme Court’s decision to end the country’s constitutional right to abortion.

“I was really nervous. I haven’t done it in a long time, I haven’t done it sober,” she said.

Allen added: “I don’t really know what I was expecting. It was really, really amazing. People went absolutely ballistic. I was really overwhelmed.”

When asked if she plans to record again, Allen revealed that she did return to the recording studio following her performance at Glastonbury, saying: “It sparked something in me. It is quite fun, I am quite good at that.

“I booked in five weeks in the studio just before Christmas last year. And, it was awful. Nothing really came and everything felt really contrived. It was just not very good.

“So I’m not going to put any of that out. Maybe one day, we’ll see.”

The Jonathan Ross Show airs on Saturday at 21:40 on ITV1 and ITVX.
