Gareth has been penned by Joan Shirley who moved to Shrewsbury at the age of 12 and attended Harlescott School and Shrewsbury Technical College.

She has been a playwright for over 30 years, and her works have been performed all over the country and have even been translated into German.

Danny came to Shrewsbury aged three and went to The Priory. On leaving school in 1953, he joined the eight strong Shrewsbury Repertory Theatre as a young actor.

After a spell in the RAF and business, Danny has worked in theatre and TV, managed his own touring theatre company, and worked in education. Most recently he has been Head of Performing Arts at SCAT and at Adcote School.

The inspiration for Gareth was Sir Joshua Reynold’s painting of the great Eighteenth Century actor, David Garrick, with a lady on one side representing tragedy, and a lady on the other side representing Comedy.

Gareth is married to Lucy but meets Rachel, who offers a lighter and happier side to life. The play offers an examination of love, and provides a glimmer of resolution at the end.

Gareth runs from tomorrow until May 20. For tickets, or to join The Wightman mailing list, ring 08002922116 or visit www.theWightman.co.uk.
