New Theatre Severn season set to wow the fans
Comedian Joel Dommett and M People singer Heather Small are among the acts lined up to appear at Theatre Severn this year.
The Shrewsbury theatre’s new programme of shows and lectures will draw audiences from far and wide, bosses said today. From top notch comedians to big names and faces, amateur dramatics and some of the best known acts in the country, the theatre has a whole range of performers lined-up.
Former X Factor runner up and Dancing on Ice champ Ray Quinn will be leading the pack when he parties like it’s 1985 as he takes to the stage alongside former Emmerdale star Roxanne Pallett in The Wedding Singer from September 12 to 16.
On September 22, two Strictly champions, will be dancing up a storm with a live band in the auditorium. Jay McGuiness and Louis Smith, will be joined by dance professional Natalie Lowe in Rip It Up and will be dancing through the 1950s.
Keeping to the dance theme, Tap Factory is a hit show for all ages. It is the fusion of urban tap dance will percussion, comedy and acrobatics. The cast of award winning dancers make the most of ordinary objects including four pairs of tap shoes, 12 oil barrels, one step ladder, 12 cans, four wood mallets, trash cans, a step ladder, broom, toolbox and broom to create a feast for the eyes. The show is on September 29.
A different kind of dance will be performed on October 14 and 15 the Russian State Ballet and Opera House will bring Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet to the theatre. Performed with a large live orchestra the ballet follows on from their acclaimed performances of Sleeping Beauty and the Nutcracker last year.
If it is comedy you are after, star of I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here Joel Dommett will be live on October 1 swiftly followed by America’s Got talent winner Paul Zerdin and his all star cast of puppets on October 4.
In a brand new show, Ed Bryne , fresh from his success on Mock The Week and Dara & Ed’s Big Adventure, will be on stage on November 17.
The voice and face of M People, Heather Small returns to celebrate 25 years in music on September 19, G4 will be back for an unforgettable night of class and romantic music on September 28 and OperaUpClose will present The Magic Flute on October 23. Acclaimed singer, songwriter, actress and Grammy and Novello Award nominee Lulu will be on stage on October 25.
Local groups will also be performing this autumn. Mad Cow Productions will be putting their spin on Noel Coward’s classic farce Present Laughter from October 18 to 21.
Countryfile’s Adam Henson, historian David Starkey, TV wildlife presenter Gordon Buchanan, choreographer Arlene Phillips, Professor Alice Roberts and Graeme Swann and Henry Blofeld will also be talking about their careers and experiences in the public eye.
And for children there is the latest adaptation of David Walliams’ Awful Auntie by Birmingham Stage Company from October 18 to 21.
