Classical concert in Shrewsbury will be final in series

A group of talented musicians have been celebrating their 20th anniversary with a series of concerts in Shropshire.

Carducci String Quartet

The final concert being performed by the Carducci String Quartet in the series featuring Beethoven’s string quartet masterpieces, will take place at 3pm tomorrow at Concord College, Acton Burnell, near Shrewsbury. The Carducci will be joined by well-loved actor, Crawford Logan, who has appeared in The Archers, Paul Temple and Dr Who for a unique exploration of Beethoven and his music.

A selection of the great man’s letters written to friends, family and colleagues spanning his entire life, including the famous ‘Immortal Beloved’ letters from 1812, which he wrote to an unknown woman, will be presented between related movements of his quartets. Works will include selections from his masterpieces Op18, Op59, Op95 and the late quartets Op131, Op132 and Op135.

Director of Shropshire Music Trust, Kate Hogwood said: “The Carducci String Quartet will be joined by the well-known actor Crawford Logan in a final unique and illuminating programme event exploring Beethoven and his music. The Carducci will also be working in primary schools, and running a workshop for advanced players."
