Royal role for Shrewsbury actor
An actor from Shrewsbury has taken on a decidedly regal air by appearing in one of TV's most controversial shows.
Charles III aired this week on BBC Two after making the transition from the West End, and has hit the headlines for its racy scenes and the appearance of Princess Diana's ghost.
And taking one of the central roles was Richard Goulding who played Prince Harry.
The 37-year-old had appeared in the original play which centres around Prince Charles becoming king after the sudden death of The Queen.
Richard grew up in the town and attended Shrewsbury School, where his father was a housemaster.
The Olivier-award nominee studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama – but found himself working as an actor before he had even begun his final year.
And he has carved out an impressive CV of roles – taking in a wide range of comedic and serious parts on TV, the big screen and on stage.
He starred alongside the late Tim Pigott-Smith as the titular King Charles, Oliver Chris as Prince William, and Tom Hardy’s wife Charlotte Riley as Kate Middleton.
Richard played Prince Harry in the stage version of Kind Charles III, appearing in the debut production at the Almedia Theatre in April 2014, before progressing to the West End and on to Broadway.
With his hair dyed orange-red for the role, Richard was mistaken for Ed Sheeran while performing in New York.
He is married and has a young daughter.
