Final countdown for Shropshire County Show
The last-minute touches are being made before thousands of people descend on Shrewsbury for this year’s Shropshire County Show.
The event will take place on Saturday at the Greenhous West Mid Showground in Berwick Road, with a huge range of family entertainment on the menu.
Alongside the traditional agricultural displays will be a walking, roaring dinosaur, a variety of free activities in the kids' zone, hundreds of trade stands and the first round of the British Tractor Pulling Championships.
Visitors are being asked to follow signs to the show which will take drivers around the northern ring road at Battlefield, across Ellesmere Road roundabout towards Baschurch and down Berwick Road to the showground.
The aim is to avoid traffic using the town centre, as with a sunny weather forecast and other events taking place in Shrewsbury, a busy day on the roads is predicted.
And in a bid to cut down on congestion - and offer a more relaxing way of reaching the show - a river taxi will be taking showgoers from The Mount right to the showground gates.
Last year the taxi, operated by Sabrina Boats, transported 2,000 visitors to the event. And due to its popularity the boat will be operating between 8am and 6pm.
Ian Bebbington, director of the Shropshire and West Midlands Agricultural Society charity which organises the show, said: “We have pulled out all the stops for a fabulous show.
“We have put a big emphasis on providing value for money, so there is lots of entertainment included in the entry fee - from magicians and face-painting to motorbike displays and vintage tractors.
“The animal entries have been strong, and we are particularly pleased with the level of horse entries after a reduction in classes last year.”
Tickets are available on the gate, priced at £15 for adults, £13 for over 65s, £5 for juniors, with children aged 13 and under going for free. A family ticket of two adults and three juniors is £35.
