Musicians are preparing for their live performance

Rock Project Encore will bring both seasoned players and beginners to the stage at the Hole in the Wall on April 10 for their end-of-term concert.

The musicians will perform a variety of rock music from legendary classics to modern anthems as a series of bands to celebrate months of hard work and preparation.

Organiser Lisa Wordley said: “Last year we held a 14-week course for adult learners and they enjoyed the experience so much that most of them signed up again this year.

“Because the school was full we actually launched a second Rock Project Encore to cope with the demand and this end-of-year gig will bring together bands from both sessions for the first time.”

Lisa holds the twice-weekly sessions each school term at The Barnabas Centre in Shrewsbury with a team of professional gigging musicians to teach budding performers to learn guitar, bass, drums and vocals.

She launched three successful Rock Project sessions for 7-18 year olds across Aberystwyth, Carmarthen and Shrewsbury before launching Encore due to the demand of adult learners. They include students of all backgrounds and abilities, from budding young performers to more mature players looking for a new hobby in retirement.

She added: “Some of the students had never picked up a musical instrument before they joined Encore so this is a really big moment in their lives.

“Rock Project Encore is for all abilities and what they all have in common is the desire to make the best use of their professional tuition from gigging musicians and then perform publicly as a band.”

Encore is split into two sessions which includes learning with a group of others before a play and play session where students perform together and put into practice what they’ve learnt.
