Ludlow Dog Day at Stokesay Court

The fourth Ludlow Dog Day was held at Stokesay Court, by permission of Caroline Magnus, on Sunday.

The event saw thousands of visitors and their dogs descend on the area, between Ludlow and Craven Arms.

Competitions were held on the day for all types of pooches ranging from the best rescue dog to the scruffiest mutt, which much in between.

Last year the event raised more than £20,000 for charities selected by organisers Ludlow Rotary Club.

And this year looks set to have beaten that record with more than £22,000 having already been collected.

Arnoun Roele, dog day coordinator at Ludlow Rotary Club, said: “The event went extremely well. We had a good number of people there, about 3,000 people. We had lovely weather except for one short sharp shower but it was great everybody enjoyed it.

“We think we raised about £22,000 over the event, which is slightly more than last year

“The money is distributed by the rotary club to Hope House hospice, the Alzheimer’s Society, Forest Dog Rescue, and Canine Partners.

“We keep some money back which we distribute to small organisations close to Ludlow through a process called Rotary Cares, a sort of friendly dragon’s den.

“We ask for them to bid for money on our behalf. We’re aiming to do it on July 22 next year and we’ve already started planning for it.”
