Telford pub hosts Mod festival

Hundreds of people turned out to enjoy a day of Mod music to raise money for a national cancer charity.

The Duke of York in Oakengates is the first in the borough to hold a fundraiser as part of the March of the Mods.

A full day of music was held at the pub on Market Street to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The pub is already home to the Telford Dukes scooter club, who meet their regularly and members turned up with their rides to give the day an authentic feel.

The event will ran from 1pm until closing time at the pub on Sunday.

During the day, there were performances by eight live bands, singers and DJs who gave up their time for the fundraiser, with some travelling from as far afield as London and Liverpool to take part.

Tickets priced at £8 sold out in the week before the event.

Landlady Julie Barton, who spent most of the event behind the barbecue, said: "We're glad it is finally here, everyone has been rushing around trying to get thins organised.

Landlord Ian Barton added: "It was a great feeling to announce that we sold out of tickets."

There was also be a raffle during the event, for which some prizes were donated by the Co-op.

The March of the Mods is a national charity campaign to raise money for the TCT.

It encourages people to hold their own music events in March to raise money for the charity.

Started in 2012, events have now been held all over the country.

Last year the event raised £100,000.
