RAF Cosford Air Show announces iconic fighter jet
An iconic fighter jet used at the height of the Cold War will play a starring role at this year's RAF Cosford Air Show.
Show organisers say the world’s only flying de Havilland Sea Vixen will make an appearance during the hugely popular display at on June11. The fast jet with its eye-catching twin-boom design was based on aircraft carriers in the 1960s and 1970s and helped to transform the nation’s naval and aviation resources.
Designed with power-folding wings and an hinged nose-cone the craft showcased the innovative thinking of home grown engineers of the day.
Today the Sea Vixen is operated by Navy Wings based at RNAS Yeovilton it has its 899 Squadron livery, carrying the registration ‘G-CVIX’ and is the sole model of its kind in flying condition in the world.
The air show's operations manager Peter Reoch said: “The Sea Vixen is one of the most popular aircraft in the air display circuit and will be a highlight of the six-hour flying display on Sunday 11th June. For those of you that love the noise and rumble of fast jets, this will really hit the spot. The line-up for the flying display is now nearing completion, but there may still be one or two surprise additions to announce.”
