Former Wolves footballer to display work at Ellesmere College art exhibition
The work of former Premier League footballer turned artist Jody Craddock will be among hundreds of pieces of art being displayed at a school's annual exhibition.
More than 75 artists and sculptors, including the former Wolves footballer, will be exhibiting their work at the Ellesmere National Art Exhibition and sale of works held at Ellesmere College.
The exhibition runs from next Thursday to June 3, from 11am to 9pm, and on June 4, from 11am to 2pm. The event also features a preview evening on Wednesday.
This year, former footballer Jody will be showing his original oil paintings.
He said: “I first become interested in art from my time at school where I studied the subject at A-Level, so it was always in the background.
"When I started to play football I had a bit more money to pay for the materials, canvases and oil paints and that is when I taught myself to paint.
"It was a natural option for me once I retired in 2013/14 to carry on painting and push my own boundaries.
“I want people to recognise my work up and down the country and hopefully exhibit in London. I just appreciate good artists, like Lawrence Coulson, and I have a million and one ideas for my work, gaining inspiration not just from professional artists but from sculptors and graffiti creators."
Other featured artists include Kieran Ingram, an Australian artist based in the UK. The primary focus of his work is still life.
Exhibition organiser Nick Pettingale said: "We have always been passionate about the arts at Ellesmere College. Our goal was to see the artistic talent both local and national celebrated and given a higher profile in the region.
"This is not a display of students work, great though that is, but rather that of professional artists and sculptors.
"There will be something for every taste and pocket. You can buy for your home, seek an investment piece for the future or simply enjoy the stimulation of seeing some of the nation's most outstanding professional artist exhibiting in the splendour of Big School Hall at Ellesmere."
