Raising money for the Steve Bull Foundation, the footballer was at the Shropshire Golf Centre in Muxton for the Royal Ascot Garden Party.

Joined by almost 100 attendees, Steve and his wife Kirsty believe they raised about £5,000 for the charity, which will also go towards granting wishes of ill children through the Promise Dreams charity.

Mrs Bull said the couple have been attending the event for about 11 years and said they really enjoy the day.

She said: "We do it every year, everyone turns out in their lovely dresses and posh suits, they have some food, champagne, a bit of a bet and it is just a lovely day.

"And we were raising money for the Steve Bull Foundation.

"It is a lovely day, we've been going for about 11 years, it is one of our favourite events."

The event ran throughout Friday, starting with lunch and taking an afternoon tea, with the spirit of Ascot races, with the bookie letting people have a little flutter on the horses.

Among those attending was Margaret Hickman from Lanesfield, whose mother Lou Weatherhog was a long-time supporter of the event, according to Mrs Bull.

She said: "Lou always used to attend and had the most fabulous outfits and Steve was very fond of her.

"Every year there is a best dressed lady competition in memory of her and Margaret and her family always turn out and support the event so it is very special for them."
