Cinderella proves a hit at Telford theatre
The box office record at Oakengates Theatre has been smashed by its Christmas pantomime.
The production of Cinderella has sold more than 20,000 tickets over its festive run, and a handful of performances are still available, with the show closing on Sunday.
The sales make it the venue's most successful pantomime ever.
Cinderella, which stars EastEnders' Tony Discipline as Prince Charming and 90s pop star Lolly, whose real name is Anna Kumble as Fairy Godmother, sold out on several dates over the festive period including Christmas Eve.
James Shone of Shone Productions, which is behind the pantomime, said: “We are delighted to have achieved these record breaking sales for Oakengates Theatre. The success of Cinderella is a testament to the staff and cast who have excelled in all performance and also to the audiences who come back year after year.”
Councillor John Minor, Telford & Wrekin Council's cabinet member for leisure, green spaces & parks said: “The feedback from this year’s pantomime has been outstanding. It is great to see so many people from both Telford and beyond visiting our theatre which entertains the whole family and brings many new visitors into the borough who we hope will come back soon.”
This weekend’s shows include a special relaxed performance at 11am on Saturday, which is specially designed to welcome families and groups who would benefit from a more relaxed environment, including people with an autism spectrum condition, sensory and communication disorders, or a learning disability.
Tickets, which start at £10, are available from www.theplacetelford.com.
