The Pit Stop event at the Enginuity museum near Ironbridge saw families take part in hands-on activities and experiments.

People took on a tyre challenge to see who could change a wheel on a Formula 3 car in the quickest time, got a taste of forensic investigating with some biology and physics tasks, and took part in ‘make and take’ workshops. Roaming ‘Science Buskers’ wowed crowds with several zany experiments, including making laser sounds with a slinky.

Car enthusiasts were also in the right place to bask in some automotive beauty, with a classic Morgan Plus Four and a Ford Escort MKII rally car, owned by Shifnal’s Graham Wynn OBE, which came second in Monte Carlo in 1979, on show.

Electronics company RS Components, which helped organise the event with the museum and Wolverhampton University, also provided a 35-tonne Titan II truck for hand-on STEM activities. The university’s Formula 3 team were also there with some of their cars and professional race driver Shane Kelly.

Rory Hunter, director of commercial at the museum, said: “It was a good event. We’ve had really good feedback from people. One family I spoke to said they never knew how exciting it could be learning hands-on.

"Ironbridge Gorge Museum is always keen to collaborate with local people and organisations.”
