Telford Am Dram group turn classic 50s film into stage play
A team of volunteers will bring their most challenging show yet to Telford next week.
The Telford And District Light Operatic Players (TADLOP) are in the midst of rehearsing for their production of Sunset Boulevard, an adaptation of the 1950 Billy Wilder film to be performed at the Oakengates Theatre next weekend.
Director and TADLOP president Robin Cooper said: "It's got intrigue, murder and a fabulous Andrew Lloyd Webber soundtrack.
Privileged
"It's not licensed to amateurs very often, the rights-holders actually approached us and asked about doing it so we're extremely privileged to be able to bring it to Telford.
"We will have a full orchestra, full sets and an array of glittering costumes."
The TADLOP have been bringing theatre to the area since 1972, and still run on a not-for-profit basis.
Robin, who has been involved in the group's past 50 productions, will stand down as their president after what he called the "biggest, most technically demanding" show he has run.
Volunteers
He said: "We are a society that relies on volunteers, and we have always had the pure aim of providing theatre to the area.
"Today we are still working towards that goal. I'm extremely proud of the company for taking on this challenging production."
The final dance call for next week's shows will be held on Sunday, and the crew will be able to work in the theatre proper from next Wednesday to organise the technical aspects of the show.
Sunset Boulevard will run from March 29 to 31. For tickets visit theplacetelford.com or call 01952 382382.
