Kevin Hart, Arena Birmingham - review

It seems Kevin Hart has fully come to terms with all his wrongdoings as he brings a near sell-out crowd to Birmingham Arena.

On his first tour since What Now? in 2015, he addressed cheating and ill-advised parenthood in his appropriately named, Irresponsible Tour.

After fans were pre-warned, warned, reminded and re-reminded about the strict no mobile phone use, which saw 100 people thrown out the night before, the support of the mostly-funny Plastic Cup Boyz, consisting of Joey Wells, Will Horton, and Na'im Lynn warmed the crowd before Kevin Hart theatrically took to the stage.

His recent Hollywood film involvement was made clear for all to see, as an array of lights and movie trailers for his newest films were followed by him appearing from beneath the stage in a cloud of smoke.

The 39-year-old built an instant rapport, talking about his life as an open book.

Met with a full applause, he said: "People talk about my life as if they live it. I understand that it's a bed I made for myself and I'll lay in it.

"But I left my first marriage. That was my choice that people talk about as a mistake. It wasn't a mistake.

"It was a choice I made to better myself. You need to go through inperfections to find perfection."

The self-made comedian then went on to joke about how he has no choice but to grow up.

He added: "This is my second marriage. This one has to work.

"Nobody wants to be on their fourth or fifth marriage, at that point you're not looking for love you're just looking for someone who will accept they're probably going to die alongside you."

The newly-fledged family man continued this theme throughout the show, as what seemed like a more mature Kevin Hart joked about raising his children, family holidays and playing monopoly.

In what seemed like a short but sweet show, lasting an hour and a half without an interval, he promised this would not be his last visit to Birmingham before leaving the stage almost as quickly as he appeared.

An overall entertaining show with an almost equally entertaining support act, fans left the arena wide eyed and satisfied - with the only criticism of wanting more.
