Broseley's Amateur Dramatic Society (BroADS) will be performing its new pantomime based on the Grimm brothers' tale of Hansel & Gretel.

Directed by Gill Kelly, the group will put on nine performances at the end of the month and into February.

Taking place at Broseley's Birchmeadow, the show will go ahead on January 24, 25, 26 and 31, and February 1 and 2.

Doors to these performances open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start.

There will also be matinee performances on January 26 and 27, and February 2, with doors opening at 2pm for a 2.30pm start.

With Nick Downes playing the wicked witch and Bryan Shepherd's live band taking on the music, which will include a range of golden oldies to current pop songs, the show will feature handmade scenery designed by David Springett and painted by a trio including himself, Paul Pusey and Sarah Dawe.

Following the weekly sessions that BroADS have organised for older adults, Everybody Active, the director has called upon Melissa Lauriello to help with the choreography of the show, set to feature a tap dancing sequence with local morris dancer and teacher, David Baxter.

Peter Tyler, of BroADS, said: "This pantomime's based on the Grimm brothers' tale of Hansel & Gretel – the couple of kids that get caught up by the wicked witch in the forest. But our director, Gill Kelly, has assured everyone that it's going to be far from grim.

"Much like when she directed Sleeping Beauty a couple of years back, she's making as much use as possible of the plethora of performing local talent to bring us wholesome, good-fun entertainment for the whole family."
