The fate of the crew and passengers on board the doomed cruise liner Titanic has been brought to life in an impressive and moving musical by Shrewsbury's Amateur Operatic Society.

A packed audience waited with anticipation for the group's long-awaited production of Titanic the Musical at Theatre Severn last night and were not to be disappointed.

There was certainly nothing amateur about the performances from the 80-strong cast which included men, women and children of all ages.

There was singing, dancing, humour and tragedy. All the actors gave their all and turned in memorable and moving individual performances.

The show was chosen to mark the 100th anniversary of the ill-fated ship's sinking and the Shrewsbury cast has done justice to the story with a very slick, professional and well-rehearsed show.

The set design and costumes were top notch and added to the authenticity of the period drama. Special praise must go to the orchestra which gave a rousing performance throughout the night.

The emotional finale was greeted with rapturous applause by the audience which gave the cast a standing ovation.

The show will run at Theatre Severn until March 17.
