Youngsters invited to sign up for Oakengates theatre project
Young people aged between eight and 21 are being invited to sign up for the Oakengates Theatre Youth Summer School.
The annual project, which has been run for 22 years, allows youngsters two weeks in the summer holidays to learn songs, dance routines and lines before putting on a production at the end of the fortnight.
This year's project will run from July 22 to August 3 and will be The Demon Headmaster, based on the novel of the same name by Gillian Cross.
A spokeswoman for the summer school said: "The pupils of St Campion's Comprehensive, ultra-disciplined exam machines, are devoted to their headmaster. But something strange is going on and the worst class in the world – 6Z – are going to get to the bottom of this mystery and expose the Demon Headmaster.
"This new musical is fun, exciting and a little bit scary. If you are interested in singing, dancing and the performing arts then this is just for you.
"You will spend two weeks working with a professional director, musical director and choreographer before performing the show to sell-out audiences. As well as learning new skills and gaining theatrical experience, you'll make new friends and have lots of fun."
Attendance fees are £180 for child one, £140 child two and £100 for child three. To secure a place a £40 deposit is required. Auditions for the main roles will take place on June 30.
The musical has been written by Paul James with music by Eric Angus and Cathy Shostak and lyrics by Iain Halstead and Paul James.
