The Local Producers Market will run from The Royal Oak Hotel in Tenbury Wells on the third Saturday of every month.

Starting on June 15, it will be open from 9am to 2pm and promises to showcase the best of local produce from in and around the town.

The market has been set up by three local businesspeople to attract more shoppers to Tenbury and to celebrate the quality of local produce and products from around the area.

One of the organisers, Paul Robinson, said there had already been a rush of bookings and he was looking forward to a full house for the first one.

He said: "I can always remember Tenbury as a bustling town on market days when I was a boy and I would like to see it return to this.

"So, by playing my part in these markets, may be, I can help others have fond memories of Tenbury Wells as a busy little town and somewhere to put on the 'must visit' list."

Deborah Burgess, landlady of The Royal Oak, was also involved in setting up the market.

She said: "With there being so much to do and so many places to visit we needed to create a reason for people to come to Tenbury Wells, particularly on a Saturday,.

"What better way to do it than by showing people the superb produce and products that are made within a short distance of the heart of Tenbury?"

Carole Clayton, who runs The Rural Meeting Place in the town, will be supporting Paul and Deborah and the new market traders with advice on marketing and promotion to ensure they get the most out of it.

She said: "It is paramount that everyone has a good day and if we can assist traders, particularly those that are new to the market scene, then it will be better for all.

"We want the shoppers to have a great experience when they visit us on June 15 and on subsequent months, so it is in our best interest to provide a visually attractive, comprehensive, well promoted event for our shoppers."

The group has created a Facebook page where they will be announcing attendees closer to the day to give visitors a taste of what will be available.
