125 ways for young jobseekers to get on the Ladder for Shropshire
Youngsters in Shropshire are being encouraged to get on the ladder and into an apprenticeship – with nearly 125 jobs to choose from.
As businesses continue to get on board with the Ladder for Shropshire, those looking to earn and learn have plenty of choice across several parts of the county.
New apprenticeships are cropping up in Bridgnorth, Oswestry, Shrewsbury, Telford, Whitchurch and other places.
And young people can look to start their careers in roles such as technicians, chefs, plumbers and IT workers.
The Ladder for Shropshire is an apprenticeship scheme.
And whether you are a business looking at taking on an apprentice or a young person looking for work, there are plenty of benefits to being part of getting involved. We want companies – large, medium and small – to take on apprentices and help them onto the job ladder.
An apprenticeship is a paid job that includes on and off-the-job training. For every apprentice taken, employers may be eligible for a Government grant of £1,500.
More than 80 per cent of consumers favour using a company that takes on apprentices and 74 per cent of businesses say apprentices are more loyal and stay with the business longer than other employees.

Jamie Pugh, Ladder marketing and development officer, said: "With around 124 live vacancies in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin there has never been a better time to start an exciting new career as an apprentice.
"There are new vacancies going live every day, and whether you're looking to get some practical experience as an engineer or get a qualification in childcare, we can help."
A break down of the apprenticeships available in the county show the majority available are in Telford, with 45, and Shrewsbury, with 33.
But there are also opportunities for those throughout the county – with eight places in Oswestry, six in Whitchurch, five in Much Wenlock and Market Drayton, four in Newport, three in Bridgnorth, Ellesmere and Shifnal and apprenticeships in Church Stretton, Craven Arms, Kidderminster and Wolverhampton.
General engineering, with 20, retail, 32 and business administration, 41 are the industries with the highest number of vacancies. There are also opportunities in adult care, child care, agriculture, electrical engineering, construction, IT, leisure and education.
Meanwhile, the Shropshire Star campaign is being supported by a Telford business celebrating its 40th year.
Chrisbeon has recruited apprentice Jack Skerratt, 17, of Brookside, as a warehouse apprentice at their Telford premises at Stafford Park.
Jack is Chrisbeon's first apprentice influenced by the Ladder for Shropshire initiative aimed at helping youngsters get into employment. He was recruited from Telford College of Arts and Technology and is likely to be followed by another appointment very soon.
Richard Hughes, of Chrisbeon, said: "When we conducted interviews Jack filled the bill very well. He was not only articulate, but has the physique to lift bulky items of office furniture."
