The Woolpack, Telford
As any parent knows, when taking your children out to eat it's not easy to find a venue to please everyone's appetite, writes Cathy Stanworth.
Adding Grandma to a tea-time trek out to avoid mid-week cooking, we now had three generations to cater for. Choosing to take up the challenge (without knowing it) was The Woolpack.
Although this of course wasn't the famous mythical pub from ITV's Emmerdale, and there was no Diane behind the bar, it's still a well known place in town, as it's been running since the late1980s.
Viewing its substantial menu online before visiting, I was impressed not only by the sheer vastness of it but its prices. They include a 'two for £7' offer on selected dishes and a 'pudding for just 99p' – being two scoops of ice cream topped with Belgian chocolate sauce.
With food available all day, it couldn't be more convenient for families. The management prides itself on offering great value pub-food, a quality pint and plenty of weekly events. Most days there's a food deal on, such as kids eating for a £1 on Mondays and every Tuesday diners get a free starter or dessert.
