Schoolgirl assaulted in early hours
A schoolgirl was indecently assaulted in the early hours after a night out in the Oakengates area, police said today. The assailant ran off after being disturbed by a motorist. The 15-year-old victim was attacked in the Lion Street area between 3am and 4am yesterday.
The girl was being sexually assaulted when a car stopped and disturbed her assailant who ran off.
Police say the youngster was left shocked by the attack, but did not require any medical treatment.
Today detectives at Malinsgate police station appealed for witnesses and urged the Good Samaritan in the car to come forward.
It is understood the girl was in the vicinity of the Charlton Medical Practice, the Railway station, 42s nightclub and the Salvation Army Citadel in the early hours.
Earlier the young girl is believed to have visited one or more entertainment venues in the town.
"The driver of the car that stopped - which is believed to be a light coloured, possibly silver, hatchback - appears to have disturbed the attacker.
"He helped the girl and drove her to her home in the Horsehay area. We would like to speak to this man who could be a vital witness in the investigation," said a Telford police spokesman.
An appeal has been made for witnesses to trace the attacker who is described as being of Asian appearance, in his 20s, slim build and with a "wonky" nose.
He had short, spiky dark hair and was wearing a light-striped jumper and jeans.
