Injured boy left in road
A Shropshire teenager was found lying unconscious in a busy road by his father after he was left seriously injured in a mystery accident.
Police believe that Dominic Collins, of The Rock, Telford, may have been clipped by a motorist who was unaware of the accident. The 15-year-old, who is currently in the Princess Royal Hospital, is unable to remember anything.
However, he also believes he was hit by a vehicle as he was cycling home from school.
Dominic's mother Amanda Jervis today said she believed a number of children and parents may have passed the injured youngster without stopping before he was discovered by his father Andrew who was fortunately passing at the time.
The accident happened on Holyhead Road, Ketley, as the Hadley Learning Community pupil was riding home on his Chopper cycle at about 3.50pm on Tuesday. He was found near to the Unicorn pub on Holyhead Road.
He suffered a fractured jaw, a broken shoulder, soft tissue damage to his eye and cuts and bruises.
Today Dominic said he can't remember anything between riding past the sign for Red Lake towards Beveley roundabout, Oakengates, and when he was in the X-ray department of the Princess Royal Hospital, where his mother was on duty.
Mrs Jervis said: "It's awful - we just don't know what's happened to him. He didn't know where he was when he came into X-ray where I work anyway. It was a busy time of day, somebody must have seen something.
"He is very lucky because a small child would have been a lot worse."
Mrs Jervis added: "I just saw him and he was saying 'what am I doing here? I've lost a lot of blood - I'm going to die'. He just kept repeating himself."
Dominic said: "I think I was about to cross the road on my bike and then suddenly something happened but I can't remember what and the next thing I remember was in X-ray. I usually bike everywhere but I won't be for a while."
Constable Pete Simmonds, of Telford police, said a car may have "clipped" Dominic's cycle and driven on unaware of the incident. Anyone with any information should contact Constable Chris Henry at Telford on 08457 444 888.
