Teen escapes from police car
A teenager serving an 18-month sentence at a Shropshire young offenders' institution has escaped from police custody. Michael John Hall, from Bootle in Merseyside, was serving a sentence for burglary and vehicle crime offences at Stoke Heath Youth Custody Centre, near Market Drayton.
On Tuesday he was in the custody of Merseyside Police in relation to other incidents, and was being returned to custody when he escaped.
The car was travelling on the A41 near to the Whitchurch arm of the Llangollen Canal at 6.55pm on Tuesday, when the car slowed at a roundabout.
Hall escaped and made off into nearby woodland.
A West Mercia spokeswoman said today that officers in Whitchurch carried out a search for the offender on Tuesday night.
She said: "A search was carried out using dog handlers and the police helicopters but the offender was not found."
Hall is described as white, aged 17 years and of medium build, about 5ft 7in tall with short brown hair.
He was wearing a green sweatshirt and trousers (prison issue) and was handcuffed to the front.
Anybody who has seen Hall or who has information about his whereabouts is asked to contact the police. If seen in Shropshire, people can contact 08457 444 888.
