Funeral for 'proud' Pc
Friends, family and colleagues today paid tribute at the funeral of a 41-year-old Shropshire police officer who died after falling from a multi-storey car park.
A cortege for Constable Peter Turner travelled through Newport High Street, flanked by police motorcycle outriders, while a guard of honour lined the streets outside St Nicholas' Church.
The service was held in the church where Chief Superintendent David Spencer, head of the West Mercia Police's Telford & Wrekin division, paid tribute to the officer. He said Constable Turner would be greatly missed, particularly by the large number of probationers he had helped train as a divisional training officer at Malinsgate Police Station.
"Peter genuinely cared for his probationers and gave them honest feedback," said Mr Spencer. "Peter was proud of being a police officer. Many of us will remember him for his unassuming manner, sense of humour and the quietly effective way he carried out his duties. He will be genuinely missed."
Assistant Chief Constable Pete Wright, representatives from the Police Authority and a representative from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office also attended the funeral. A private ceremony was to be held afterwards at Telford Crematorium.
Constable Turner, of Newport, died on September 14 when he fell from the Cherry Pink Car Park in Telford town centre.
