And today it was revealed that they had knocked down a lamppost last night leaving it at a dangerous 45 degree angle just behind the village community centre. Ward Councillor Peter Adams said the council had to be called out this morning to make the area safe.

Police received reports from members of the public of a male using some kind of instrument, similar to a baseball bat, to damage property in the early hours of Friday morning.

Two houses in The Keep had windows smashed, including three double glazed.

And the rear windscreen of a Vauxhall Corsa in Montrose Place was also smashed, causing hundreds of pounds worth of damage.

Also windows at the community centre were smashed as well as windows in a block of flats in the Paddock.

The offender came from Briery Lane, through Rothley Close and into The Keep, damaging windows on route. He made off in the direction of Gains Avenue.

Ward councillor Peter Jetson said it was believed two youths took part in the wrecking spree. He said officers were examining CCTV footage in a bid to trace the culprits.

"We are in the midst of putting up a camera on the community centre because there's quite a substantial amount of damage being done there as well," he said.

"Whether it's the same people that are responsible I don't know, but it's an ongoing thing that never seems to stop."

Fellow councillor Mr Adams said: "I have had residents round here reporting vandalism to me. There's a consensus that two men are doing this and one was carrying a metallic base ball bat. I would urge anyone who knows anything about these two men to get in touch with the police."

Anyone who saw the incidents or has any information about the offender is asked to call Shrewsbury Police on 08457 444888.
