Indy sent off - and recalled

When does a red card not equal a sending off in football? Just ask AFC Telford United. The Bucks looked set to be reduced to 10 men in last night's FA Trophy replay at Eastwood Town. Inderpaul Khela was dismissed in the closing stages of the tie.

Tensions were running high when a mass brawl broke out involving just about every player from the two teams - apart from Khela. A player is pictured trying to part two teammates during last night's incident.

In an apparent case of mistaken identity, the Telford defender was then shown the red card - but match officials staged an amazing U-turn after protests from both sets of players and management teams.

Khela was recalled from the dressing room to the game - but that could not prevent Telford crashing out 1-0.

Manager Rob Smith said: "There was a clash between Eastwood's Chris Shaw and our defender Lee Vaughan and the two squared up to each other.

"Before I knew it, almost every single player on the pitch was involved and the referee chose to send off Indy who was 60 yards away from the incident on his own.

"A lot of refs would have been too stubborn to change his mind so fair play to the ref for doing that."

It was the second such incident involving Telford this season after Glenn Tolley was dismissed in a game against Ossett Town last month. He was recalled to the pitch - only for the ref to revert to his original decision and force Tolley off once more.
