The Bond star was forced to pull out at short notice through illness so his dad took his place.

Gerald Tattum, tourism development officer for the council said: "We came up with idea to hold a premiere because Daniel Craig was born in Chester and we also found out that it was the Odeon Cinema's 70th birthday, so we thought it was highly appropriate to get some sort of premiere.

"November 2008 will see the second James Bond movie with Daniel Craig so we are going to pitch to get the world premiere."

He added it was always going to be tight as to whether Daniel Craig would make the premiere but he said they were delighted when his dad, Tim, and family members attended.
