Inconsiderate drivers are causing misery for residents across Shropshire as they dump their cars on the county's streets to dodge parking charges.

Vehicles are being left on double-yellow lines, footpaths and in restricted bays by motorists flouting parking regulations.

Shropshire County Council is now investigating the possibility of introducing residents-only zones to clamp down on people leaving residents with nowhere to park outside their own homes.

People in the Mountfields area of Shrewsbury have already offered their streets for a pilot scheme after they became fed up with selfish motorists clogging up parking bays.

Councillor Alan Mosely, Economic and Environment Scrutiny Panel chairman, admitted the authority was now treating the matter as urgent.

He said councillors were considering introducing residents-only parking permits.
