It was the second tragedy on Worcestershire roads within a few hours. Last night a man in his 30s died when his 4x4 Nissan Navara struck a tree and overturned close to Hawford School on the A449 near Ombersley at around 10.40pm.
A passing police surgeon stopped and tried to help but declared the driver dead at the scene.
Witnesses saw the vehicle leave the Kidderminster-bound carriageway and cross over to the Worcester-bound lane.
It then went back on to the Kidderminster side before it hit a tree and overturned.
Post-mortem
No other vehicles were involved in the accident. The coroner for Worcestershire, Victor Round, has been informed and a post-mortem will take place tomorrow.
Councillor John Aston has lived on the Spennells estate for many years. He said today's tragedy happened on a road which badly needed treatment.
Councillor Aston, who lives in Fieldfare Court, said: "Heronswood Road is dangerous. It has not been resurfaced for more than 30 years and badly needs treatment.
"Of course we don't know what happened here but I have seen drivers doing more than 60mph. I will be calling for traffic calming measures."
