An investigation has been launched to establish the cause of the fires.

Shropshire Fire Service and West Mercia Police are looking into the blazes, which started between 4.11am and 6.15am yesterday.

Officials believe they were all started deliberately by the same person.

Thousands of pounds of damage was caused to several cars at Pant Motor Bodies at the Canalside, North Road, Llanymynech and two barns were also damaged in blazes at Sweeney and in Nant Lane, Morda.

Detective Constable Dave Harris today said he wants to hear from anyone who spotted anything suspicious at or near the locations.

In particular, he is anxious to trace the driver of a vehicle that passed the scene of the barn fire at Brynmappis Farm, Nant Lane, Morda at around 6am.

"If the driver was not involved in the incident, they might well have seen something which will help us. Please get in touch," he said.

Proprietor of Pant Motor Bodies Ltd, Robin Hitch said checking CCTV footage to catch the culprit had drawn a blank. "It seems as if the camera was pointing in the opposite direction," he said.

He said the majority of the cars damaged were in for insurance repairs. "We are obviously very upset beca-use of the people's vehicles that have been affected," he added.

People with information should call 08457 444 888.
