Seven-year-old Sam Loveitt, of Much Wenlock, was guest of honour at a fun day held at the town's Royal British Legion club on Saturday.
His mother, Sharon Breadon, said she could not believe how many people had been there to offer support and help raise money for a specially designed wheelchair for Sam.
She said: "I have lived here all my life and there are lots of people helping us who I don't even know. Sam is a bit overwhelmed by it all but his spirits are good. He is only out of hospital for the weekend but we hope to have him home in a couple of weeks.
"We just have keep going. He has his ups and downs but generally he has coped with it all amazingly well.
"We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has helped organise the day and everyone who came along, we are very grateful."
Organiser of the event, Kevin Hill, of the Much Wenlock branch of the Order of the Buffaloes, said he was delighted with its success.
He sat in a bath of baked beans throughout the day and said it was cold and uncomfortable but worth it to raise money for Sam.
He said: "The people of Much Wenlock have taken this to their hearts and it has been amazing. It shows what community spirit is all about. Sitting in the beans has been an experience but I don't think it's something I want to do again."
The event included bric a brac stalls, a barbecue and hog roast, sponge throwing and a visit from the Beacon Radio Black Thunder crew. There was also a disco in the evening which had sold out.
