Bridgnorth mayor, Iain Seivewright, has organised the meeting on Thursday to show people what his group, the Bridgnorth Riverside Enhancement Group, has planned for the river.

He wants to hear suggestions and opinions about how to make the River Severn more of a tourist attraction in the town.

Councillor Seivewright said the group had already started on proposals to create footpaths and wildlife parks alongside the river in Low Town.

He said he hoped residents would embrace the ideas and come up with some suggestions of their own.

"The meeting is for people to make comments and ask questions, and we are looking for people who might be interested in volunteering," Councillor Seivewright said.

"The plan is to create a walk for health and for pleasure."

The meeting will be held at the Low Town Community Hall at 7.30pm.

A committee set up by Bridgnorth District Council is also looking into ways of improving the river, and plans are under way to create a heritage park in Low Town.

Council officers are applying for funding to build the park by the middle of next year in time for the bicentenary of the world's first steam passenger locomotive, Catch Me Who Can.
