Parking lines to be deleted

Hazard lines preventing cars from blocking a Shropshire man's drive will be removed by the county council following complaints from neighbours - just weeks after being painted.

Dennis Lightfoot, of Blakeway Close, Broseley, asked Shropshire County Council officials for lines to be put in place because he said vehicles were continuously ob-structing his drive.

But now after neighbours in the cul-de-sac submitted official complaints, claiming that the markings were "unsightly", the county council has agreed to remove them.

The zig-zag lines, similar to those outside schools, were painted in front of Mr Lightfoot's driveway a month ago but will be removed after the council did a U-turn on its decision.

Mr Lightfoot said: "I asked them for the lines on the grounds of safety as there have been four accidents down here. People just park anywhere, across drives, on the pavements and even over fire hydrants."

Brian Bennett, Shropshire County Council's assistant divisional surveyor, said: "Since the lines have been installed we have received numerous complaints from residents in Blakeway Close asking for lines to be removed as they felt that they are unsightly and that there has never been a problem with parking in this area.

"As a result we have contacted Mr Lightfoot to explain the situation and, as the majority of residents did not want this marking, we will be making arrangements for the lines to be removed."
