The Australian superstar called Scott Murray a possum and made a comment about a kilt he was wearing when he went on stage to receive the award of Entrepreneurial Business Of The Year.

The accolade was handed out as part of the Publican Awards held last week at London's Grosvenor House in front of 2000 guests. Mr Murray, who lives in Cannock, recently had a burglary at his Bar Sport venue in Walsall's Bridge Street where £25,000 was taken.

But Mr Murray said this award had gone a long way towards making up for the break-in.

He said: "It was great to meet Dame Edna. I was wearing a kilt because of my Scottish roots so she made a comment about that and called me a possum.

"This is such an amazing award for us, the competition was so strong. This is an award for the group and for everyone's hard work. We came second last year so it was great to win the award this year. It is certainly a boost for us following the burglary and everyone associated with Bar Sport is delighted."

Mr Murray has a three-year, 10-venue expansion plan with Loughborough being the next Bar Sport to open in the summer. He has a Bar Sport in Cannock and Rugby.

Other venues are set to be announced and the company is concentrating on towns with a strong sporting link. Mr Murray invites sporting legends to his venues to meet customers. Last year during the World Cup 1966 World Cup winning heroes Roger Hunt, Gordon Banks and Nobby Stiles appeared.
