MP should say sorry over claim

Local people may have wondered why colleagues of Jon Tandy remained silent while serious accusations of fraud against him were put to Parliament by our MP.

I had no doubt of Jon's innocence from the outset, but felt I had to await the due process of police investigation before I spoke out.

Mr Kawczynski's statement, made under the cloak of parliamentary privilege, cast a shadow over Jon Tandy and indeed every postal worker in the country.

The logic of his line of questioning in Parliament, about postal workers with an affiliation to the Labour Party possibly tampering with postal votes, would equally apply to any other postal worker with an affiliation to any political party.

This exposes the biased nature of our MP's question.

I would like to ask Mr Kawczynski to examine his conscience. This attempt to seriously smear his opponent must have caused hurt and distress to Jon Tandy's family. I believe our MP has exhibited, at best, very poor judgement, at worst, complete malice.

I hope he will now have the grace to apologise to everyone.
