Neil Williams, of Calcott, Stirchley, was discovered at the back of Churncote in Stirchley on Friday morning.

An investigation was launched and Mr Williams' identity remained a mystery for several hours. He had no shoes on his feet and his pockets were empty.

The last time Mr Williams was seen, he was wearing a short, dark bomber jacket, black leather belt, silver Adidas watch, and white training shoes. It is also believed he would have had some money in his pocket but these were all stolen.

Detectives believe he was either pounced on by robbers as he was walking home from the pub or thieves rifled through his pockets as he lay helpless on the ground.

Detective Inspector John Elcock, leading the investigation, said: "I am convinced that the key to this inquiry lies within the local community.

"I am surprised and very disappointed nobody has come forward yet with any information. Neil's family too are disappointed."

Mr Elcock added: "People may be protecting others by not coming forward with this information. I cannot believe somebody doesn't know what has happened."
