The Shropshire family of a pensioner who died six weeks after he was stabbed with a metal spike and found in a cupboard paid tribute to him today.
Leslie Ince, 80, of Walsall, West Midlands, was attacked with a 23-inch barbecue skewer, which went 14 inches into his neck and torso. He was discovered at his home on February 21.
His son Peter, who lives near Much Wenlock, appeared on TV show Crimewatch appealing for help with the ongoing police investigation.
In a statement released by police, his daughter Stephanie Ince described her father as courageous.
She said: "Until this brutal attack, my father lived a busy, vigorous and independent life. He was very well liked and respected by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
"We make a heartfelt appeal for anyone who may know something, no matter how small, to come forward so that those responsible are off our streets and justice is served."
Results of a post-mortem examination released by police yesterday confirmed Mr Ince died of a stab wound to the chest. Police are keen to trace two youths seen in St Ives Road in the week before the attack. One is black and the other white.
