About three caravans have moved onto the land off the A41, opposite The Raven, and the district council has said it is stepping up enforcement to get them moved.
Today, lorry driver Geoff Barker, of Ash, said he and other residents had called the authority to get the problem sorted out.
He said: "There's a big hole and it's full of empty gas bottles just dumped in a pile and conifer tree cuttings. It's one hell of a mess."
Today, district council spokeswoman Rian Bentley confirmed they had received reports about the site from concerned residents and were making efforts to move the travellers.
She said the site was not in the council's ownership and belonged to a firm in Jersey.
The travellers claim the rubbish was there when they arrived and said they were due to move on.
