Parking a problem at homes site

I write in amazement at the naive comments attributed to Nick Wood, Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council's housing manager, in relation to the proposed development on the small greenfield site at Upper Road, Shrewsbury.

The council is seeking planning approval to build five two-bedroom "affordable" houses.

Yes Mr Wood, the planning application does provide for five off-street parking places, but what about the two car families and their visitors? Where will they park?

They will park in the already over congested Upper Road, causing problems with access and safety for the current residents, or more likely park illegally at the junction with Hereford Road.

Mr Wood will be aware that his authority's Park Rite refuses to enforce out of town parking restrictions even though it now has a statutory duty to do so.

When this additional and unwanted development brings the inevitable parking problems, who will enforce parking in contravention of the Traffic Regulation Orders and those cars parked upon pavements or at the access to Meole Rise? Not Park Rite, that's for sure, Mr Wood.
